Jersey’s police force could cope with losing 14 officers and staff members

The force currently employ 214 staff across their uniformed and civilian roles and 87 per cent of their annual £24 million budget is spent on staff costs.

However, with all States departments facing austerity measures as the Island looks to plug an estimated £145m deficit police have been working on a new working model that offers greater efficiency.

Home Affairs Minister Kristina Moore and Tom Walker, chief officer of the department, said that up to 14 jobs could be cut using a combination of improving technology, training officers so they are capable of performing multiple roles, and changing the way the force works to meet the modern environment.
