Debt-ridden Islanders may be able to write off financial problems under new law

If a proposition lodged by the Chief Minister Ian Gorst is passed in February, debt-ridden Islanders will be able to apply for a new Debt Remission Order.

The order, which would be similar to the debt relief order used in England and Wales, would allow an individual’s debts to be frozen for 12 months and then written off if they are still unable to pay them.
