Joao Figueira Freitas’s terrified victim told probation officers that she is scared the 52-year-old will kill her if he is not deported to Madeira where he was born, the Royal Court heard yesterday.
Freitas, who pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault between December 2012 and May 2015, was sentenced by the Superior Number – which only convenes for Jersey’s most serious cases – on Tuesday. A decision on his deportation will be made at a later date.
Freitas was arrested on 4 May this year after the victim’s mother found money in her school bag. The girl – who cannot be named for legal reasons – broke down in tears and said it was from ‘Joao’, saying that he had assaulted her and threatened she would be put into care if she told anyone what had happened.
