The total amount spent on public events for the 70th anniversary of Jersey’s liberation from German occupation reached £227,678 – almost double the original budget of £119,461.
£25,000 of the overspend has been blamed on changes made to the commemorative events following the public outcry on hearing that the programme did not include the traditional celebrations at Liberation Square.
