Celebrity chef treated to a cuppa at Jersey Cheshire Home

The celebrity chef was in the Island to host this year’s Kitchen Inferno, a cooking competition at the Hotel de France in which two teams of novice chefs went head-to-head to cook a fine dining menu for 150 people.

During his visit to the home, Mr Torode was made a cup of Turkish tea by Oscar Isik, who was born in Turkey.

Mr Isik was left with a severe brain injury in 2004 after he tried to stop a gang of men attacking another man in a St Helier pub.

Money raised during this year’s event, organised by Freedom Media, will go towards refurbishing the charity’s hydrotherapy pool.

Mr Torode said: ‘Cooking a fine dining menu for 150 guests is a serious challenge for these novice chefs, but everybody is really game.

‘To put themselves in a situation like this out of their comfort zone and in a high-pressure environment is pretty brave.

‘And at the end of the day it is all about the charity and raising money to refurbish the hydrotherapy pool.’

The two teams, which include politicians, businessmen and women and members of the media, spent six weeks training for the event under the direction of three local chefs – Sumas’ head chef Patrice Bouffaut, Liberation Group executive chef David Cameron, and head pastry chef at Saffrons and the Hotel de France, Phani Kundeti.

Students from Highlands College also supported the event in the kitchen and front of house.
