Santa Claus is coming to town…

He will be joined by Dick Whittington and other characters from the pantomime as two simultaneous parades travel through town, starting from around 5.30 pm on Thursday.

One parade is due to start at the Millennium Town Park where Santa will switch on the lights.

Meanwhile, on a festive train filled with children, Santa will make his way to West’s Centre to switch on more lights before heading to the Royal Square.

Meanwhile, Dick Whittington, along with other members of the cast from the Jersey Green Room Club’s forthcoming Christmas pantomime, will take part in a lantern parade from Howard Davis Park.

Both parades are expected to meet at the Royal Square at about 6.15 pm where Father Christmas and Miss St Helier, Ella Blampied will switch on the lights. They will then travel on to the Weighbridge.

The town will be lit up for Christmas throughout December

Daphne East, the town centre manager, said that this year’s parade promised to be ‘very exciting’.

‘The parades will finish at the Weighbridge at approximately 6.30 pm,’ she said.

‘Santa and the characters will travel back into the shopping precinct and around Liberty Wharf to give out goodie bags to the children.

All spaces on the Santa Express train have been donated to the children’s charity Variety and Les Amis.

The Green Room Club’s production of Dick Whittington will be staged at the Jersey Opera House from Friday 18 December until Saturday 2 January.

A TEAM of ‘angels’will once again take to the streets in the run-up to Christmas to help people with their shopping.

The St Helier Angels initiative has been launched by the parish in partnership with telecoms company Sure, with volunteers helping shoppers from late November until the weekend before Christmas.

St Helier and Sure are asking volunteers to enrol for the job, which will include helping people carry shopping to the car, calling taxis or generally providing assistance during the festive period.

The initiative was held for the first time in 2006 and has proved to be a scheme in the lead up to the festive season each year.
