Expect delays: Victoria Avenue to close one lane next week

The eastbound lane will be shut from 9.30 am on Monday for approximately five days for the Transport Department to carry out patching repairs.

The lane will be closed just past the garage at Bel Royal to the Rue de Galet junction.

The road surface, which was laid in 2008, is expected to have a life-span of 15 years, but TTS said that the maintenance work was expected.

Transport Minister Eddie Noel said that the patching repairs are ‘normal’ for a busy road which has thousands of users everyday.

Phase one of the project, which included the eastbound lane, was completed in July 2008 at a total cost of £1.3 million. Phases two and three of the resurfacing work started on 6 October 2009 and were completed 39 weeks later on 16 July, with a two-week shut-down during Christmas and cost £4.6 million.

The westbound carriageway – which was part of the second and third phase – will undergo similar repairs next year.

TTS said that the work is likely to cause traffic delays for drivers using Victoria Avenue and La Route de St Aubin and should allow extra time for their journeys.
