Town hotel to be replaced with 179 flats

The scheme was briefly revisited at a public planning meeting yesterday after a decision on the plans was delayed in September.

As reported in the JEP last month, the committee deferred a decision on the scheme and asked developers Dandara to provide further information about the allocation and sale of the project’s 203 parking spaces.

Yesterday Dandara’s representatives agreed to a planning condition that specified that the spaces for the development in Roseville Street could not be used by commuters or non-residents.

The Shakespeare Hotel

  • Earlier this month it was revealed that 14 apartments and three homes could replace the Shakespeare Hotel.
  • The apartments – one- and two-bedroom units – would be created in a four-storey block at the front of the site, while terraced houses would be built at the back.

  • Under the plans, the apartments would use slate roofing, light grey, grey and white rendered walls, pink Jersey granite, frameless glass balustrades and marine-quality grey powder-coated aluminium cladding.
  • Originally the site was home to a large mid-19th century family house which went on to be converted into a hotel in the 1940s.

  • The hotel closed its doors at the end of last month and Dandara say they are now working with the Planning Department, the Jersey Architecture Commission and residents on a scheme to build apartments on the site.

The Almorah Hotel

  • The owners of the Almorah Hotel have not renewed their licence for 2015 and told the Economic Development Department that they plan to turn the property in Lower Kings Cliff, St Helier, into residential units.

Portelet Hotel Ltd

  • Portelet Hotels Ltd – part of Seymour Hotels – put forward a set of proposals in January to tear down the building to make way for a large family home.
  • Under the plans the main hotel, two smaller houses at the site, a garage, summer house, greenhouse and shed totalling 5,615 square metres would be demolished, with a house, guest and staff accommodation, swimming pool and tennis court in its place.
