The head teacher of Rouge Bouillon, James Speight, said even though the children were eagerly collecting Cash4School vouchers, no one at the school was expecting to win.

‘To have £500 to kick-start the development of the school’s outdoor areas is fantastic, as we are currently taking advice about bringing in some greenery to create a natural area.

As a town school we want to get a balance between hard and soft landscaping in our outdoor learning area,’ he said.

Now in its third week, the annual month-long competition, in connection with the One Foundation and playground equipment suppliers Form CI, will be giving away £18,000 to the primary schools which have registered to collect tokens published in the JEP every day.

In addition to the competition prizes, the foundation will be presenting £5,000 to one school and Form CI will be giving away £4,000 in spot prizes.

St Peter’s School teacher Janet Willis said they were delighted to win.

‘We would like to spend the money on items from an extensive wish list that includes a tree house, pogo sticks and stilts, tents with books inside, tree swings and a tennis court,’ she said.

St Mary’s School, Jersey College for Girls Prep, Mont Nicolle and Les Landes schools have also each won £500 in the weekly draw.

  • Organised by the Jersey Evening Post and The One Foundation, the four-week promotion will run from 21 September until 17 October, during which period schools are once again being encouraged to collect the tokens published daily in the JEP.
  • Participating schools have once again been given collection boxes into which pupils can post their tokens.
  • All tokens have the same value so students can keep track of the school’s progress and see the box filling up each day.
  • At the end of the promotion, boxes will then be weighed to find out which school has collected the most tokens. The winning boxes will then be verified to ensure that nothing other than tokens have been dropped in.
  • The cash can be spent on anything that will benefit the school community. Schools could use it to improve a current area of their school, or to create a new area. Or they could spend it on school resources such as books, new sports equipment, computers, or play equipment.
  • As this is a community initiative, as well as collecting the daily tokens themselves, pupils, staff and parents are also encouraged to get their friends, families, neighbours, and even local businesses to collect them on their behalf. The more tokens you have, the more chance you’ve got of winning some cash!
