Pride of Jersey judging completed and prizes chosen

Thirty-three judges came together to consider the entries from the three finalists in each of the categories, which are being revealed each day in the JEP.

Each of the 11 awards had three judges; a representative from the company sponsoring that category, a senior JEP employee and an independent judge, who had some kind of expertise or experience in that particular field.

The judges hard at work at Hotel de France

Before judging commenced, all of those present treated to a buffet lunch from the Hotel de France, before the main event of the day got underway in what is normally Saffron’s restaurant.

After picking their winners, each of the judges had to help decide upon a prize, worth up to £1,000, which will have been tailored to each of the recipients.

Event organiser Carl Walker, deputy editor of the JEP, said: ‘We were extremely grateful that so many people were able to give up a few hours of their time to help choose the winners of our first Pride of Jersey awards.

‘The Hotel de France looked after us all extremely well, which meant the judges could get on and focus on the difficult task of picking out our winners.

‘They had already been helped by the public, whose 15,000 votes helped us achieve a shortlist of three in each category, but they nevertheless still had an unenviable task before them.’

The Pride of Jersey awards ceremony, which is a ticket-only event, is due to take place a week on Wednesday in the executive terminal at Aviation Beauport from 5pm, and will be hosted by Nerina Pallot and Graeme Le Saux.
