Heavy rain, flooding and lightning strikes leads to multiple call-outs for Fire Service

The Fire and Rescue Service said that it was ‘overwhelmed’ with calls for assistance due to the extreme weather conditions as the Island was battered by storm conditions.

At the peak of the extreme weather the service had more than 20 firefighters dealing with more than 50 calls in a three-hour period between 1 am and 4 am.

The calls received by the service ranged from reports of lightning strikes to concerns about flooded homes.

Jersey police warned this morning that a fallen tree was partially blocking Waterworks Valley, La Rue de Dielament in Trinity was blocked and that a roadside wall had collapsed in Rue des Maupertuis , St Clement.
