THE sights and sounds of summer are coming to St Helier on Sunday at the annual Havre des Pas Seaside Festival.

Thousands of Islanders are expected to turn out for the free event, which will include a wide range of activities for all ages, including live music, games and food from across the world.

Now in its ninth year, the annual event will be laying on its usual array of alfresco dining stalls, ranging from burgers to tapas, as well as local arts and crafts stands.

There will also be fun family-friendly activities including water polo and beach volleyball, sandcastle making and a waiter and waitress race, while music will be provided by, among others, Joe Young and the Bandits, Run for Cover, JC and the Looney Tunes and Kevin Pallot and the Pinnacles.

The local bands and DJs will be playing at three locations at the festival, and a post-festival party is being hosted at Mimosa nightclub at the Weighbridge until 1 am.

Daphne East, town centre manager, who is helping to organise the festival along with Jason Maindonald, said she was thrilled that it was returning for another year, adding: ‘We are delighted to deliver an event incorporating beach sports and family fun activities.’

Mrs East added that she was still looking for teams to enter the sandcastle competition, the waiter and waitress race, tug-of-war and the fancy-dress contest.

Entry is free but any profits made will be donated to Friends of Oncology and the Jersey Brain Tumour Charity.

The event is open from 10 am until 8 pm.

The seafront road at Havre des Pas – between the roundabout at Hotel de Normandie and Havre des Pas Gardens will be closed to traffic from 7 am to 11 pm tomorrow.

The southern sections of Roseville Street and Cleveland Road will also be closed and the one-way traffic system in Marett Road will be reversed.

THE summertime vibes will be coming to Havre des Pas tomorrow as the annual Jersey Seaside Festival returns.

The family-orientated event features a host of activities, food and live music from local acts, including the DJs from Rocksteady, Joe Young and the Bandits and Run For Cover.
