Games athletes to inspire Island’s youth

The two competitors, Ross Jeffs and James Faudemer, will coach at various locations across the Island to inspire the Island’s young athletes.

Mr Jeffs, a silver medal winner in the triple jump and bronze medal winner in the long jump, will be based at Springfield Super Sports Camp, coaching a range of sessions throughout August.

These will include tennis, football, athletics, rounders, cricket and swimming.

Mr Faudemer, a tennis gold medallist, will be based at Langford and Les Quennevais Adventure Sports Camp.

There will be activity mornings at Langford, with a range of sports including swimming, trampolining and climbing.

At Les Quennevais the focus will be on watersports such as surfing and paddling, with a range of activities also taking place at the sports centre.

Sport development officer Peter Gough said that the ‘first-class coaching team’ would ‘inspire young people to remain fit and healthy and enjoy their sport’.

He added that the coaches could talk to children about their experiences and help them find out how they could also become involved in that sport.

‘It’s excellent to have sporting role models so soon after the Island Games,’ said Assistant Minister with responsibility for sport, Steve Pallett.

‘This is another benefit of having the competition here.’
