Tourist attraction changes opening hours after neighbours complain about roaring dinosaurs

The Tamba Park in St Mary had to call an unscheduled meeting with parishioners on Wednesday to address their concerns that deafening Diplodocus and talkative T-Rex were bothering nearby residents.

The JEP has learned that complaints were made about the noise to the park’s owners who have now confirmed that opening times have been altered.

The park, which has opened on the site of the former Lion Park, which closed in 2013, features animatronic dinosaurs up to six metres tall. The new attraction also includes miniature boats that can be sailed across a pond, model remote-control boats, a children’s adventure park and a fish-feeding area. It has been developed by local entrepreneur Jonathan Ruff.

Writing on Facebook one Islander said: ‘I think we have to look at the bigger picture and consider those who live nearby. I only walked down the lanes at the weekend and the noise was unreal – would hate to see the place having to close if noise pollution is an issue.’

Michael Bee, manager at the park, said ‘comments’ were received but the changes have been made for several reasons.

‘We have received some comments but they not the only reason we have chosen to change the times. We have taken on board feedback from residents as well as customer feedback on Facebook.’

Asked what the noisiest dinosaur was, Mr Bee said: ‘We have been tweaking the dinosaur noise levels so they are all fairly standard.’

Previously the park had been open from 10 am to 7 pm everyday. However, it is now only open late on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
