Jersey upset the odds to win Muratti with superb performance

Victory for hosts Guernsey was deemed, in many areas, to be a formality, but Jimmy Reilly’s men blew that away in some style with a 3-2 win that ended a run of three wins for the Sarnians.

Jersey led from the early minutes when Jack Boyle, a player coveted by Guernsey FC, found the net to set the tone. Although Guernsey had a deal of possession it was Jersey who were the move effective in attack and a second from captain Luke Watson gave them a 2-0 half-time advantage.

The Reds were in dreamland in the second half when stalwart defender Stuart André made it 3-0, although they did have to suffer a nervous few minutes at the end after late goals from Ross Allen and Mackay narrowed the gap.

The victory is a tremendous boost for Jersey’s NatWest Island Games ambitions as the Sarnians were seen as one of the favourites for gold in Jersey this summer.
