JERSEY singer Frankie Davies will be performing a homecoming concert this weekend.

The young songstress will be taking to the stage at The Drift on Saturday evening, with a live show open to fans of all ages.

Frankie performing on the main stage at Jersey Live in 2014

A firm favourite on the local music scene, Frankie last year had the chance to open the main stage at Jersey Live.

During 2014 she also headlined Groove De Lecq and The Halkett Hoedown, before playing a number of UK festivals such as Isle Of Wight Festival.

Later that year she was whisked off to Nashville by Bob Harris and the BBC as one of just three artists to represent BBC Introducing at the Americanas.

On that trip she met Al Lewis who will be opening this weekend’s show, playing in the duo Lewis and Leigh.

Lewis and Leigh recently performed live on Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show.

This weekend’s concert at The Drift will get under way at 7.30 pm and under-18s can attend, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Frankie recently released a five track EP, Dancing All Night, which features her first two singles Superman and Shivers.

Both songs received national airplay on Radio 2.

The EP is available to buy on iTunes and most well known download sites.

In August 2014, Frankie Davies, then aged 22, featured in the JEP’s Person in the News series

LOCAL country folk music singer Frankie Davies was born in Jersey. The St Martin resident is the daughter of Bill and Frances and has a brother, Joe, and sister, Grace.

What’s the best part about your job?

The travelling aspect. I love seeing new places and playing to new audiences. I’m going to America in three weeks to perform a gig with the BBC in Nashville.

And the worst part?

Playing to an empty room – there’s always going to be those kinds of gigs! In the past I’ve had a few, but there haven’t been too many, which is good.

What would you like to see changed in Jersey?

It would be good to have a gig venue for people of all ages. There are concert venues, but there aren’t places were people of all ages can go and watch a gig for the whole night. I realise that it would be difficult because of licensing laws, but it is difficult for me because I have a younger audience and there is nowhere here that young people can really go and watch a nighttime gig.

Where is your favourite place in Jersey for a quiet walk?

I don’t really like walking, but when I do it is from my house in St Martin down to the beaches on the east side of the Island, like Archirondel and St Catherine’s.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

I haven’t really been on too many holidays, but I like anywhere hot and next to the sea. I really want to go to the Caribbean. My favourite place that I’ve visited to perform was Dublin – it’s an amazing city to visit. I went there a couple of months ago on my tour and I only spent one night there, but I would love to go back and spend longer there. It’s such a vibrant city.

What is your favourite piece of architecture in Jersey?

I love the Central Market. My Dad is a greengrocer there, he runs Just William, and I call him the king of the market. He’s so loud and everyone knows him. I think its a gorgeous building. I’ve been to quite a few markets and none of them have ever lived up to Jersey’s at all. The inside of the market and the fountain are really beautiful. My Dad’s worked in the market since he was 14 and started his business when he was 18. When I was little he used to stick me in a box and I’d draw and try and sell my drawings and then when I was older I used to work there every Christmas.

What is your favourite part of the Island?

I absolutely love Gorey. I love the castle and the little houses around it. The east is my favourite side of the Island – it’s so picturesque.

And Jersey’s biggest eye-sore?

I’m not too keen on the Waterfront. I lived in Liverpool three years and their Waterfront is just so beautiful that it made me realise what they could have done in Jersey.

Who is Jersey’s greatest son or daughter?

My Dad, because he’s been through a lot but he’s always smiling.

Where is your favourite place in Jersey for a drink?

I don’t go out to pubs normally, but my brother runs a company at St Ouen so if I had to go for one I would grab a drink with him after work at Big Vern’s and watch the sunset. My usual tipple is a glass of white wine.

And for a nice meal?

Again, I don’t tend to go out for meals too often because I am allergic to too many things, so I’ve learned to really love cooking. My favourite meal to cook is a roast – any kind of roast – and I also love to cook desserts, which can be a challenge for me because I’m allergic to milk and eggs, but I find it really fun.
