Under-16s to go free at biggest GP surgery

Today, Island Medical Centre, which has four surgeries across Jersey, has become the first practice in Jersey to offer appointments for under-16s free of charge.

It follows moves by two other practices – the Atlantic Surgery and the Channel Islands Co-operative Society – to offer free consultations for children under five, in addition to cheaper than average prices for teenagers and adults.

And in a separate development last year, Health Minister Andrew Green proposed to increase the subsidy the States pay to doctors to reduce the average cost of an appointment. That move is yet to be rolled out.
