The aim is to have the whole of town open until 7 pm on Thursdays for the next year or 18 months, and further projects to boost business in town are being planned for next year.
David Elliott, director at the department store Voisins and chairman of the Retail Development Group, which is responsible for the initiative, said that the longer the later openings went on, the more people would become accustomed to it and would turn out to shop.
