Should former luxury hotel become a listed building?

The building, which until earlier this year was a luxury hotel, has been identified by the States historic environment team as important enough to feature on the Island’s register of listed properties, which enjoy extra protection from development and alteration.

However, BDK Architects have objected to the proposed listing on behalf of property owners Takilla Limited.

The firm has argued that the building should not be listed, saying in a report that the case for its listing on the grounds of architectural or historical importance has not been made.

However, a response compiled by Jersey Heritage describes Eulah Country House as a good example of a large detached Edwardian house, with arts and craft-style features both inside and out.

Do you think enough is being done to protect Jersey’s historic buildings?

And what buildings would you add to the historic buildings list to ensure the property had greater protection?
