Jersey’s Health Department said that only those Islanders going into their first year of university later this year need the jab, which is available through Island GPs.
It is likely that the students would have had the meningitis C vaccination as a young child, however, immunity to the disease decreases over time.
The Department said that those returning to university or starting Highlands College do not need the vaccine as they are at a much lower risk of contracting the disease.
