The 16-year-old was one of 660 young singers who auditioned for 264 new places and was selected to sing with the National Training Choir.

‘At first I was shocked, but I was really chuffed to think that they picked me. I was just over the moon,’ she said.

The National Training Choir is for boys and girls from all over the country who are in school years nine to 13.

Miss Hayden, who became the first ever singer to reach the final of the annual PwC Jersey Young Musician of the Year competition last month, travelled to Bromley, London, for her audition.

The Jersey College for Girls student, who has been a member of the Jersey choir Musical Originals Singers for five years, has been in Reading this week to train with the choir and is due to perform her first concert with the group today in Birmingham.
