The bug, which has made the headlines recently, is known to have affected thousands websites across the world. In total, 495 JerseyMail accounts have been affected.
The accounts were accessed at the end of last week and the emails stored in them were deleted and possibly removed.
It appears that the accounts were ones where users access their JerseyMail account from a web browser.
Jersey Post today said it had already implemented the appropriate ‘security patch’ and was currently in the process of restoring the emails which had been deleted. It is expected that this will take several days.
