Mr Mézec (23), the youngest candidate in the election, promised at a recent meeting that he would ‘always fight for the democratic rights for the people in St Helier’.
He added that he would support a proposition requiring the States to pay St Helier parish rates and said this would provide an additional £1 million for the parish.
‘I’ll be an active and effective States Member from day one and I think that I have shown that my political principles and values are very clear and that I will stick to them,’ he said.
He was on the platform with fellow candidates Centenier Huelin, events manager and DJ Mr Manning and former Parish of St Helier Greffier Mr Philpott
Mr Mézec will sit in the States at least until October when general elections are held. He fills the vacancy left after the resignation of Deputy Shona Pitman, who was disqualified from the States after being declared bankrupt.
