States payroll keeps on growing

In the 12 months to the end of June, the public sector grew by 150 employees to a total of 6,920 – the highest since records began.

But States officials were not able to say yesterday whether the new staff were in frontline services, such as nursing and teaching, or employed as back-room civil servants.

The figures have been published by the States Statistics Unit, which analyses Jersey’s labour market every six months in December and June.
