The sentence, which was that moved for by the Crown, was announced at around 6.30 pm after the court had spent the day listening to details of the case and then deliberated for 1½ hours.
In August, after a two-week trial, Rzeszowski was convicted of the manslaughter of his wife, Izabela, children Kacper (2) and Kinga (5), 56-year-old father-in-law Marek Garstka, friend Marta de la Haye (34) and her five-year-old daughter Julia at his St Helier home.
The Polish national had denied murder but admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
