Six-hit Saints retain title

St Paul’s have won the Coca-Cola Combination Premiership having beaten Trinity 6-0 in a play-off at Springfield last night.

The team, who won the premiership title last year, will now represent Jersey against Guernsey Northerners in the Upton on Saturday, at Springfield.

While St Paul’s manager Craig Culkin was, even after his side’s emphatic victory, complaining about a system which does not allow for the team that tops the league on goal difference to take the title, he was looking ahead to, what was just a few days ago, an unexpected climax to the season – the Upton.

‘We’ve only done half the job,’ he said. ‘After losing the Upton 2-0 last time around we’ve got something to prove. We’ve suffered our set-backs this season, but these boys are something special and they’ve come back from set-backs against Scottish showing just how good they can be.’
