Trinity battle back to win

TRINITY came from a goal down at Le Couvent on Saturday to defeat Rozel Rovers 4-1 and book a place in the semi-finals of the Le Riche Cup.

After Island cricketer Ian Crocker fired the Rovers ahead after just four minutes Trinity hit back to level eight minutes before the break as junior Reuben Pestana scored his first first-team goal of the season. Trinity added further goals through Stephen McCarter (two) and Dave Le Roux to make it back-to-back wins against Rozel in after defeating them 1-0 in the Premiership the previous Saturday at the Riley Field in Trinity.

St Paul’s and Grouville were comfortable winners against Championship opposition, Grouville scoring six times without reply against Magpies at the Airport while St Paul’s hit nine, for the second week running, without reply at hosts St Martin/SCF.

Alex Jeffries scored three and Chris Carter and Luc Le Mière one apiece for Grouville whose other goal was an own goal. Craig Russell and Jean-Paul Martyn hit hat-tricks for St Paul’s with Luke Watson, Carl McConnell and Jordan Docherty adding singles. Russell’s treble was his third hat-trick of the season taking his season’s total 18 for the Saints together with two in the under-21 Muratti.

Jersey Scottish, who last week defeated Jersey Wanderers 6-1 in the Premiership, beat Wanderers again but this time with a late goal by Ross Crick for a 2-1 success at the Hockey Club. Crick’s tenth goal in five games came just five minutes from the finish in a match which Scottish goalkeeper Craig Fletcher made some fine saves. After Ali Santos had put the Scots ahead Wanderers equalised through Island under-18 captain Jay Reid.
