ONLY Grouville stand in St Brelade’s way of registering a 16th outright win in the Trinity Shield final tonight at Springfield.
But the easterners will also be keen to record only their fifth outright success – their last was way back in 1929 – after reaching the final for the second time in consecutive years. If Grouville are to be successful, they will have to be tight in defence against opponents who have a number of proven goal scorers.
Grouville manager Andy Cadoret said: ‘We are well aware of St Brelade’s strengths. I watched them win against St John on Saturday and basically they won because St John allowed them too much space. St Brelade’s danger lies with Chris Andrews and Jean-Paul Martyn in midfield, while striker Gary Freeman certainly knows where the goal is. We will set out to stop St Brelade’s supply to their front two. Give them time and space and they will hurt you, as they showed on Saturday, and when they defeated St Saviour in the previous round.
‘I feel we are stronger than St John, so I’m optimistic that the game will be much closer. Unfortunately we have lost midfielder Henry Le Maistre because he has returned to university – he had an excellent game in our semi-final win at St Lawrence.’
