New M&S outlet for Island?

The CI Traders Group, which runs the Jersey M & S franchise, announced today that it had acquired the site for £1.5 million and would be developing a grocery retail presence there, with the ‘strong possibility’ that it would be Marks & Spencer.

CI Traders, who own the Checkers supermarkets, will also be increasing the range of Waitrose products they sell through their stores in Jersey and Guernsey, with a view to establishing a franchise agreement in due course.

In a trading statement for the first 17 weeks of the financial year, presented today at the annual meeting in Guernsey, chief executive Martin Bralsford said there had been ‘signs of recovery’ in the retail sector but no improvement in the hotel, restaurant and catering sectors.
