Football:Four step forward with ‘New Vision’

Football:Four step forward with ‘New Vision’

Just two months after voicing his concern that football administrators should stand up and be counted, he has taken the bull by the horns himself by getting a trio of people behind him to offer support in varying r?les.

A strong believer that changes need to be made in the structure for the Island game, he has taken steps by launching a brochure today – titled A New Vision for Jersey Football – enabling followers to read about their hopes for the future.

With a minimum of three JFA positions open for election at July’s annual general meeting, Weir is being backed by Charlie Brown, David Brookland and Iain Mackenzie – all who have a good background, Brown in football administration, refereeing and coaching; Brookland in finance – he spent six years raising Aldershot from liquidation – and Mackenzie who directs Sporting Eventualities and therefore the man with the contacts around the globe.

Weir said: ‘We all believe the time is right for football to move forward and we’re happy to let everyone know our views.

I’ve got quality people supporting me and I’m now announcing officially that I will be standing for the JFA presidency.

‘By announcing plans early we are demonstrating what can be achieved in a short period of time.

I have people who are prepared to work and they are like-minded people.

‘We are not a bunch of mates or a clique, we know each other from footballing circles.

We have no business connections, we sat round a table and discussed things and we are all in agreement.

‘It’s a strong group and I’m confident with our backgrounds we can attract others to join us and help for the benefit of the game.

We want to be in the JFA as a group and not go in as a one-man band.

‘We are looking to fill the positions of president, vice-president and treasurer.

I also have an assistant treasurer lined up too, Adrian Franklin is employed at Ogiers while previously he was financial controller at Equity Trust.

‘Clubs have a large slice of the voting at the agm and our next step is to meet with them and discuss our plans.

We have no hidden agenda, we are a new group with a vision and we’re looking to progress.’ The New Vision for Jersey Football brochure highlights who the group of four are, what they aim to achieve and why they want do it.

Jerseyman Bradley Vowden, who has played in four Island Games, said: ‘I’d love to see Jersey progress on to the European or World stage.

Having played against the Faroe Islands I honestly believe we can achieve a similar success.

‘With the right infrastructure, marketing, guidance and dedication of a team of focused individuals I believe we can look forward to a bright future.’ Clubs wishing to meet the New Vision group should contact Ricky Weir, telephone 07797 718 716.
