Goals from Stephen Reid, Luc Le Mière and substitute Josh Collins secured a repeat of their recent league result – their first win against Tower in 20 years – just under a fortnight ago.

Grouville manager Ian Horswell said: ‘It’s the fourth time running that Tower have not scored against us; that shows the development of Grouville is improving.

‘We had a disappointing league draw at Wanderers on Saturday but it was also a point more than we got there last season.

‘Last night the first half was fairly even, our goalkeeper did not have a save to make.

We were just about to take the game with a second goal just after the break but there was a handball on the goal-line and the resulting penalty was saved.

‘We finished strongly as we have done in our last three games but we have not finished off our chances.’ Tower manager Dave Philpott said: ‘I felt a major decision cost us early in the game, Michael Agrela was clean through and brought down but the referee didn’t show a card.

‘It was a decision that went against and in the end we made mistakes and were punished.

We got round the back of their defence a lot in the first half but we failed to test the goalkeeper.

‘Our goalkeeper caught and juggled a cross into his goal for their first goal while Martin Higgins had a back-pass intercepted for their second.

‘Having Blake Applegate sent off ten minutes into the second half for a handball obviously didn’t help and for long periods we were always chasing the game.

‘Recent results do not reflect on my team’s ability.

We’re playing some good controlled football; the breaks are not going our way but we just lack an experienced player to help us along.’ Le Mière tucked away Grouville’s second after Toni Cardoso’s shot was spilled by the ‘keeper.

Grouville’s third was nodded home by Collins after Peter Hall’s corner kick.
