Law firm rebrands and increases staff numbers

Founded in 1992 by Geoffrey Crill and Carol Canavan, the firm has just appointed a new managing partner, Advocate Jane Martin, and has decided to concentrate on building its operation in Jersey rather than expanding overseas.

‘Our focus is going to be very much on building our business in Jersey, rather than opening offices in overseas jurisdictions,’ said Advocate Martin.

‘We have invested substantially in our local operation with the recruitment of new staff; I think that reflects our belief in Jersey and its future.

‘We are not a financial services firm, but one of our key roles is to provide legal advice to financial services businesses in the Island, and we will be working hard to develop that area of our business in the coming months’.

Mr Crill, the senior and former managing partner, has taken over the firm’s commercial department.

The firm has also recruited barristers Kathryn Purkis to work in its commercial litigation department and Stuart Pryke, who will specialise in trust work in the commercial department.

Philip Thomas will be joining the firm as the new financial director, and Nick Cabot joins the property conveyancing department.

Crill Canavan now has seven partners and employs 44 people.
