GALLERY: Reigning champion holds on to his ploughing crown

Around 60 people watched the 14 competitors use the traditional ploughing method to farm a plot of land in fields near St John’s Church.

Last year’s champion, Jack Luce (26), the son of Environment Minister Steve Luce, retained his title as champion breezer after a decision by the judges.

Becky Houzé, the social secretary of Jersey Young Farmers said: ‘It was a really fun event, something which is always really popular with the farming community in Jersey.

‘Breezing is unique to Jersey -–something which was in use 50 or 60 years ago, but is not really well used any more. It is great that the tradition is upheld every year for the competition.

She added: ‘Jack is amazing – I think he has won the event for the past four or five years so it wasn’t a surprise he was victorious again.’
