About 200 people took part in the Sandstorm event which was held at the St Ouen quarry on Saturday.

Robbie Campbell (35) crossed the line first in 28 minutes and 22 seconds and Lorna Gwilt (32) was the fastest woman, completing the course in 34 min 19 sec, while the fastest team were Team Crossfit, who finished in 31 min 52 sec.

The event organisers are now planning to hold another event later in the year which they hope will attract up to 500 competitors.

Chester Mackley, the organiser of Sandstorm and managing director of Absolute Adventures, said: ‘I think people like it because of the sense of challenge.

‘We want to make it even bigger next time, and maybe include a junior event and a corporate cup.’

He thanked Qi Finance for sponsoring the event and Simon Sands Quarry for allowing the race to be held on their property.

Kiri Cavill, chief executive of Qi Group said: ‘The competitors did really well to battle through the challenging course and weather conditions.

‘It was windy and cold in the quarry and the obstacles were tougher than ever.’
