GALLERY: Edwardian Jersey

AS part of the JEP’s 125th anniversary year, we will be producing a number of special supplements celebrating our comprehensive photographic archive.

Free with this weekend’s newspaper is the second in our series of 12 Jersey Through the Decades supplements.

The series shines a light on life in Jersey during each of the 12 decades since the launch of the JEP in 1890.

This weekend’s edition focuses on Edwardian Jersey, with a number of amazing images of Island life from the turn of the century, taken between 1900 and 1910. They include a coronation, the first cars on the road, and the birth of the Battle of Flowers.

The photographs all belong to the Société Jersiaise, who recently launched an appeal calling on members of the public and Jersey businesses to make a pledge towards the work of the organisation’s archive and Archisle – the Société’s contemporary visual arts programme. In return, they will be able to select a photograph from more than 100,000 images of Jersey life dating back to the 1850s.

Individuals are being asked to pledge £100, while businesses are expected to donate £1,000.
