AN eight-strong team of Regent Gymnastics Club members returned from National Gems grades competition with 19 medals and distinctions in their individual gradings.

The Independent Gymnastics Association National finals took place in Oxfordshire where Regent’s girls competed against nine clubs from across the UK.

The first of the Islanders to claim gold was 11-year-old Catherine Szulc. Competing in Citrine Grade (ages 11-13) in a strong field of 12 athletes, she excelled on both the floor and vault to claim a gold and silver medal respectively, finishing in sixth place overall.

Five of the Caesareans competed in the Sapphire Grade, also aged 11-13, and all five secured medals on the apparatus.

Myla-Rose Barry (11) took gold on beam and silver on floor, while fellow 11-year-old Florence Irwin produced an outstanding performance on the bars to also claim gold.

Georgia Simey (12) took to the floor for her performance, bettering the opposition to claim the win.

Holly Evans (12) earned silver on the bars and her strong vault performance saw her take bronze.

Elsewhere, Jessica Wickenden (12) took silver with a stellar effort in the flexibility and balance event.

In the final category, two Regent gymnasts, Amelie Manton and Bobbi Billington, competed in the Amethyst (11-13 age) category.

Manton (12) was on astonishing form, claiming gold in four of the six events she competed in – floor, beam, flexibility and balance and the all-round event – while also taking home silver in vault and bars. Billington also impressed with two gold medals in vault and bars, while adding silver in the beam event.

Head coach Julia Falle said: “This was the girls’ second competition this month.

“I’m so pleased to see all the hard work the team have been putting in shining through and reflected in their results.”

Regent extended their thanks to Jersey Sport for their financial support towards travel.
