A HAT-TRICK of hat-tricks headlined the recent weekend of combination action with both Premiership 2 and Championship 2 action taking place, alongside the beginnings of the women’s season, and the Wheway Cup.

After their inaugural game of the 2024/25 season in Jersey’s top flight, Sporting Academics were once again drawn against St Clement, this time in the Wheway Cup at home.

In the previous encounter, James Beaumont’s Anchors dominated the league newcomers 5-0.

Unfortunately for the Accies, history repeated itself as the easterners felled the Crazy Gang 5-0 once again.

2024 signing Darren Coyle opened the scoring within ten minutes.

Jamie Savoury’s men did well to stay hot on the heels of the St Clement side for the remainder of the first half but, shortly after the break, a slew of goals from Daniel Tostevin, Jay Dos Santos and Coyle put the Anchors well out of the reach.

Finally, one minute into overtime, Coyle slotted one more into the Accies net with the help of Dos Santos, finalising the 5-0 score and securing himself a hat-trick to boot.

Raising the curtain on the women’s campaign, the newly-renamed Sylvia Spinola Memorial Cup’s first matches pitted Jersey Wanderers against St Peter, and Rozel Rovers against Sports Club of Jersey.

Wanderers, who won last year’s Zenith Cup, bettered St Peter 2-1, after the Crosskeys drew first blood, through Kelly Hughes.

A 43rd-minute equaliser from Sofia Rodrigues, and Samantha Silva’s 62nd-minute strike, steered Wanderers to victory.

Meanwhile, last season’s table-toppers, Rozel Rovers, ran riot over Sports Club of Jersey 9-0.

It was a difficult start for the newly-formed side as Roisin Flynn scored a hat-trick, Ma-Ya Larsson grabbed a brace, while Charley Skinner, Emma Tyniec, Emily Le Page and Holly Muirhead all claimed one apiece.

Elsewhere, Premiership 2 action saw Dragoes de Jersey edge out the Rozel Rovers men’s side 2-1, with goals from Celso Joao Lira Dias and Fabio Santos Pires.

Relegated Premiership 1 side St Ouen sent a clear message to their Premiership 2 counterparts as they trounced Sports Club of Jersey 4-0 in their mission to reclaim their place back in Jersey’s top flight.

Daniel Huelin scored the first after just four minutes, with Luke Moss taking the team to two shortly after.

In the second half, Elliott Hughes was the sole name on the scoresheet, scoring twice.

Meanwhile, St John decimated St Lawrence 8-0.

Sean Lambert opened up the floodgates in the eighth minute with Christian De Oliveira and Sam Luce subsequently replicating his success in the first half.

The latter half proved even worse for St Lawrence as De Oliveira scored two more goals, claiming himself a hat-trick.

Ben Channing and Tom Mollet also scored, making up the St John’s eight, with the added bonus of an own goal on top.

Finally, Championship 2 saw a tight 1-0 game as Grouville C edged past Rozel Rovers Reserves, with Reece Sarre proving the difference for Grouville.

Meanwhile, St Ouen C coasted past Trinity 7-1, as James McMillan and Jack Bara got two each, alongside Callum McDougall, Alex Kilpatrick and Sonny Coughlan completing the tally.

Trinity’s lone goal came from Logan Mitchinson.
