ST CLEMENT First booked their place in the semi-finals of the Wheway Memorial Trophy in emphatic fashion, sweeping aside Guernsey outfit Sylvans with a ruthless eight-goal display on a sun-soaked Saturday afternoon at Springfield Stadium.
Madeira lost out to Northerners in the other Quarter Final whilst St Ouen’s Reserves progressed in the JFA Bowl.
Jersey Wanderers Women and Rozel Rovers Women each produced emphatic scorelines as they sit level on 15 points at the top of the Cherry Godfrey Women’s Division.
St Clement 8
O’Shea 30′, Burton 32′, Hinds 41′ 58′ 64′, Davy 47′, Coyle 61′, Campos 70′
Sylvans 0
HT Score: 3-0
JEP Player of the Match: Seaney McColgan
Facing into the glare of the sun in the first half, the hosts showed no signs of discomfort and asserted control from the outset. Bruno Da Silva was denied inside four minutes when put clean through, the Sylvans goalkeeper producing a strong hand to push the effort wide, but it was an early warning of what was to come.
St Clements grew increasingly comfortable in possession and their pressure told on the half-hour mark. A perfectly delivered corner from Seaney McColgan caused chaos in the six-yard box and Connor O’Shea rose highest to head home a deserved opener.
Just two minutes later it was déjà vu, another set-piece undoing the visitors as Jay Dos Santos’ corner was met by Dan Burton to double the advantage.

Sylvans struggled to stem the tide and matters worsened just before the interval when Sam Gilman was penalised for handball in the area. Karl Hinds stepped up and, despite Nick Batiste getting a hand to it, calmly rolled the penalty into the bottom corner to make it 3-0 at the break.
If there was any hope of a response, it evaporated immediately after half-time. Yet another corner proved decisive as Harry Davy added a fourth, continuing Sylvans’ nightmare afternoon defending set-pieces.
Hinds then got in on the act from open play, volleying home from close range after the ball dropped kindly following a partially cleared corner to make it five.
The striker was at the heart of everything and moments later turned provider, latching onto a defence-splitting pass from McColgan. Hinds unselfishly squared for Darren Coyle to tap into an empty net for six.
Hinds soon added his second of the afternoon with a composed finish to make it seven, before McColgan capped a brilliant individual display by teeing up Ryan Campos for number eight.
There was even time for a lighter moment, as Hinds was booked early in the second half for an impressive Hand of God impression, his cheeky Maradona-like finish from close range spotted immediately by the referee.
St Clements coasted through the closing stages to confirm a comprehensive victory and set up a semi-final clash with Northerners.
In the other quarter-final, Madeira bowed out after a 3-2 defeat to Guernsey league leaders at Springfield, despite a spirited display with ten men.
Goals from Diogo Velosa and Andrew Gomes were cancelled out by a direct Northerners side. With the tie at 2-2, Madeira went down to ten men and it ultimately cost them as they fell just short of the semi-finals.
JFA Bowl
St Ouen’s Reserves 2-1 win against St John First was the sole Quarter-Final fixture to go ahead this weekend as both Rozel Rovers First vs Grouville Reserves and Jersey Wanderers Reserves vs Sporting Academics were called off due to waterlogged pitches.
St Ouen’s made up for the lack of games with an exciting display at Les Quennevais on Saturday afternoon. Stephen Coleman opened the scoring for the western side after just five minutes, with St John replying through Noah Trench.
Luke Moss stole the winner following a corner for St Ouen’s which sees them into the Semi-Final.
Championship 1
St Clement Reserves continued to apply pressure on St Ouen’s in first place with a convincing 5-1 win against St Brelade Reserves at FB Fields.
A Josh Griffiths brace was accompanied by singles from Michael De Barros, Taylor Roche, and Nathan Davies. Connor Maher netted St Brelade’s only goal to level the tie at 1-1.
Cherry Godfrey Women’s Division

Jersey Wanderers Women put seven past Sports Club of Jersey Women on Sunday morning. A Lauren Queree hat-trick helped Wanderers on their way to a 7-0 victory at Les Quennevais on Sunday morning.
Lara Couvert scored two with Coco Leonard and Natasha Keen also adding to the goal tally.
Rozel Rovers Women recorded a 9-1 win against St Peter Women; Charley Skinner scored an impressive seven minute hat-trick.
Bulls stars were in full flow for the Rozel side, Tiffany Sundby scored a double whilst Anita Tavares, Leah Morris, Danielle Bradshaw and Daisy-Mae Kilpatrick netted the others.
