Evelyn Partners Jets 51
Norfolk United 47
Players’ Player of the Match: Lily Jones
Opponents’ Player of the Match: Becca Forrest
EVELYN Partners Jets returned to winning ways this Sunday morning at Oakfield, holding off a spirited Norfolk United side to claim a hard-fought 51-47 victory in Premier League 3 action.
From the first whistle, the Jets imposed themselves on proceedings, as they lead from start to finish.
The opening quarter set the tone. Lily Jones, back in the shooting circle, looked unstoppable, finding space and converting opportunities with clinical efficiency.
By the seven-minute mark, the hosts had established a 7-3 lead, which extended to 13-7 by the halfway point of the first quarter. Norfolk battled to keep pace, but the Jets’ forward movement and high-energy midfield interceptions gave them a clear edge.
Becca Forrest marshalled the defensive end with authority, nullifying any Norfolk threat and ensuring Jersey went into the second quarter 15-10 ahead.
The second quarter began in similar vein, with the Jets quickly registering the first point and maintaining their momentum despite a few scrappy passages of play. Rosie Tonner’s influence was evident as she linked seamlessly with Jones and Emily Le Gros in attack.
By the midway point, Jersey had stretched their lead to 20-13, and the home side continued to dominate, leading 30-21 at half time.
Norfolk emerged from the break with renewed intensity. The visitors’ Goal Shooter and opponent’s player of the match, Florrie Grigg-Petitt provided an immediate challenge, narrowing the gap to 33-27 within minutes.
The Jets’ defence, tested by physicality and persistence, responded admirably, but the visitors clawed back further, cutting the deficit to just three points at 35-32.
Tonner’s composure and vision were pivotal as she orchestrated several attacking bursts, with Jones finding her range on long-distance efforts to restore Jersey’s advantage. By the close of the third quarter, the Jets maintained a five-point cushion at 40-35, though the visitors had made clear they would not yield without a fight.
The final quarter opened with a surge from Le Gros, who quickly added two points, helping to push the lead to 42-35. Norfolk responded with intensity, closing the gap to 46-42 and creating a tense atmosphere on the Oakfield courts.
The home crowd, energised by the seesawing scoreline, cheered as Jones demonstrated her composure under pressure, sinking a long-range effort after a physical tussle around the defensive circle. The game’s final minutes were marked by quick transitions and contested possession, but the Jets’ experience and discipline saw them see out the close contest.
Captain Rosie Tonner reflected on the victory afterwards, highlighting both the positives and the areas for improvement, stating: “We came flying out of the blocks and got a 10-goal lead early, but we knew at this level that was never enough.
“Norfolk adapted, and we had to adjust quickly ourselves. I’m really pleased with how we maintained our lead, particularly in that last quarter.”
Tonner also praised the role of the home crowd, noting the energy and support as a key factor in helping Jersey close out the game, saying: “It’s nice to come off with a win in front of our fans after a tough loss last week. The support really helps to push us through those final minutes.”
The captain reflected on the team’s approach during the tense end to the match, saying: “We were a bit slow to react to their changes in the third, and that’s something we’ll want to improve on going forward – cutting their momentum earlier is key.”
She also praised the squad’s resilience: “I’m really pleased with how we adapted and kept our composure. Every player knew their role and contributed, and that’s what allowed us to hold the lead.” On the significance of the win, she added: “It’s nice to finish the week with a win and head into our break on a positive note.”

Defensively, Forrest stood out, earning player of the match honours for her consistent interceptions and ability to frustrate Norfolk’s attackers. Alongside Molly Carre, she formed a formidable barrier that allowed the Jets to control the tempo and convert turnovers into points.
The attacking trio of Jones, Le Gros, and Tonner worked seamlessly to keep Norfolk under constant pressure.
The victory represents an important morale boost for the Jets after last week’s narrow defeat, reinforcing their ability to respond to adversity and maintain a strong position in Premier League 3.
While Norfolk United showed resilience and skill throughout, Jersey’s tactical adaptability, composure in key moments, and standout individual performances ensured they held firm to claim a deserved win.
Sunday’s match will undoubtedly provide lessons for the Jets as they continue their campaign, but for now, the Oakfield crowd celebrated a confident and controlled performance from a team showing all the hallmarks of a side capable of sustained success in this competitive division.
