JERSEY’S beach volleyball league is back in full swing. The Jersey Volleyball Association (JVA) have worked hard to put on the Island’s inaugural season, welcoming six ladies’ teams and 12 men’s sides.

Now at the halfway point, the league is showcasing the athletic prowess of seasoned beach enthusiasts and the rise of promising talent.

A ladies’ and men’s league has made its debut this season, as well as a thrilling series of tournaments, all happening at Gunsite.

So far, three tournaments have taken place. From the fast-paced “out of the hat” draws, to the intense same-sex pairings and lively mixed fours, each tournament has seen fantastic turnouts, with 30-40 players diving in.

The next event is a mixed doubles set for 16 August. Among the stars of the season is Millie Moscardini, who only took up the sport a year ago. Her rapid rise is as spectacular as it is inspiring, testament to her dedication and the supportive league environment.

Alongside her is Milena Grigoras, a young prodigy setting the courts alight with her talent and enthusiasm. Together, they’re proving that, with resilience and determination, the sky’s the limit.

Our new player rankings have added an extra layer of competition, igniting even more passion among participants. Yet, the league continues to champion inclusivity, welcoming players of all abilities.

Whether you’re mastering your top-spin serve or just learning to dig, there’s a place for you here.

Community is at the heart of the league’s success, as the cheerful camaraderie and sportsmanship have fostered a vibrant scene that draws newcomers to the sport. This has meant strong growth in participation, with new faces filling the courts.

To further nurture this budding community, the club is inviting everyone to join its Wednesday open sessions at Gunsite Beach, starting at 6pm every Wednesday. These are a fantastic way to meet fellow players, hone skills and soak up the atmosphere.

Also they have sessions for the juniors – our future stars – who train every Sunday at 11am.
The club thanked this year’s beach season organisers, Jack Messervy and Patrik Lalka, as well as the committee of JVA.
