The last season in 2020 went down to the wire, with Altair Partners, EFG Private Bank, and Express Autos battling for the coveted trophy on the final evening of matches before Jersey’s Covid-19 lockdown.

Altair took home the honours, and will be returning to defend their title. The prevailing title-winning team consisted of Nick Watkins, Callum Renault, Nick Taylor and Przemyslaw Niemiec.

The averages trophy was hotly contested, but Raoul Harris (Express Autos) imposed his will to snatch the title, winning with a 93 per cent average. Talha Nasis (EFG) was close behind, boasting an admirable 92% per cent score, while Derek Rogan (Express Auto Parts) finished third with an 89 per cent average.

After such riveting action in prior seasons, Table Tennis Jersey looks set to bring the thrills, seeking out an additional three teams to join the current line-up of 11 squads.

The format has changed, with each team requiring a minimum of four players, as well as having the possibility to register and include others as the season progresses. The Table Tennis Corporate League has shown that recreational players in Jersey could compete at a higher level in the JTTA Leagues, with many taking on the challenge over the years.

Eleni Middleton, president of the JTTA, commented: “We are very grateful to TMF Jersey, our sponsor, and highly appreciative of the support from the business community for the relaunch of the TMF Jersey Corporate Table Tennis League.

“With 11 teams currently participating and potentially over 100 players visiting Fort Regent, this event has gained considerable popularity in the table tennis calendar.

“We acknowledge the wide range of abilities among participants and hope this initiative will engage the interest of the business community. Currently, the JTTA is fundraising for repairs to the Geoff Reed Table Tennis Centre, and TMF’s sponsorship of the Corporate League significantly supports their efforts.”

James Coughlan, market head of TMF Jersey, added that they are “excited to support the Jersey Table Tennis Corporate League, as the event aligns closely with our company values.”

The JTTA aims to help increase the number of individuals keeping fit, in a fun yet competitive environment, while boosting player participation in this growing sport.

Additionally, they are pleased to assist with funding the rebuilding of the table tennis centre, a priority for Table Tennis Jersey.

Table tennis is classed as one of the most adaptable and inclusive sports there is, meaning anyone can give it a go.
