Athletics: Zane gives support for indoor track proposal

Following news that plans have been submitted to build a multi-million pound sports complex on the grounds of Jersey RFC, Great Britain representative Zane Duquemin believes the development of such facilities will prove crucial for elite progression.

Architectural drawings for the Jersey Sports Academy include a 40-metre indoor athletics straight.

‘I’m all for any initiative that is looking to provide support for elite athletes,’ said Duquemin. ‘I’m passionate about high performance sport so it would be great if something like this was developed.

‘Having an indoor straight, even if it is just 40 metres, would be useful for acceleration work, so athletics as well as a number of other sports would benefit greatly.’
