IN response to Barbara Clarke’s letter (JEP 2 Aug) in which she ‘objects most strongly’ to seeing women breastfeeding in public areas, may I suggest she simply turns away if she can’t smile and give verbal support to someone nourishing their child naturally? Getting out of the home is vitally important for new mothers’ mental health and wellbeing. It can be incredibly isolating and depressing stuck at home all day.
