A 21-YEAR-OLD man has denied sending a series of abusive and threatening messages to his former partner.

Thomas Roy Allen Jones pleaded not guilty to improperly using telecommunications systems when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court last week.

Legal Adviser Harrison Gollop, prosecuting, alleged that Jones sent six messages through social media which included a threat to kick down the door of the woman’s family home and insults including profanities and calling her “dirty” and a “slapper”.

The first message was allegedly sent in November 2025, with others following in February and March. The most recent was allegedly sent last month.

Advocate Julie-Anne Dix, defending, questioned whether the prosecution could prove where the messages came from and who sent them, saying that its evidence consisted only of screenshots.

She also argued that the content of the messages did not meet the threshold for a criminal offence.

Advocate Dix told the court that Jones and the complainant had remained in contact.

The court heard that the latest call came from the woman and her new partner, who were alleged to have been “goading” Jones.

Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke released Jones on conditional bail and ordered him to have no contact with the complainant or any witnesses.

The case is due to return to court on 2 October.
