ISLANDERS are invited to join the annual service commemorating those who were evacuated from Jersey during the Second World War.
The 2026 version of the event, organised by the Jersey Evacuees Association, will take place at the Albert Pier in St Helier on Sunday 28 June, starting at 12pm.
Both the Lieutenant-Governor and the Bailiff are expected to attend the ceremony, along with politicians, former evacuees and their relatives.
The event will feature the laying of a wreath in recognition of around 6,500 Islanders evacuated during June 1940, prior to the start of the Occupation by German forces on 1 July. Historian Ian Ronayne will make a speech, and a recording will be played of the late Sadie Le Sueur-Rennard singing Beautiful Jersey.
Organiser Jean McLaughlin said that all are welcome at the 30-minute service, and encouraged those attending to bring a Jersey flag.
Following the event, a lunch will take place at the Hotel Ambassadeur in St Clement from 1pm – anyone wishing to attend the lunch is asked to call Mrs McLoughlin on 721171.
Vehicular access to Albert Pier will be suspended during the service, as well as for a brief period on either side.
