Jersey cyclist Jay Cracknell forged some impressive early‑season form with a demanding block of racing across France, delivering standout results on both road and mountain bike.

The Jersey Sport Podium Potential athlete opened his account in Plougoumelen late last month, tackling a fast, tactical 84km road race in intense heat. Riding without mechanical or feed support, Cracknell managed the conditions smartly.

After missing the decisive early break, he forced a late move with eight riders and sprinted to second in the chase group, finishing 13th overall from 43 finishers. He also collected an unexpected race primes award – for his positioning on a particular lap.

A day later, he switched disciplines for the Brittany Cup MTB Cross Country race in Laillé. Starting from the back row and delayed by a crash, he surged through the field to finish sixth.

“French riders go out incredibly fast, but once I settled in, I just kept overtaking,” he said. “From the back row to sixth – I was pretty happy with that.”

Last weekend brought a Tour de Vire stage race, where team duties for CC Plancoët took priority. Cracknell helped force splits in a brutal, rain‑soaked Stage 1 before contributing to a lead‑out that delivered his team’s sprinter to victory.

Cracknell, who thanked Caesarean Cycling Club, Jersey Cycling and CC Plancoet for their backing this season, earned the Blue Jersey as first non‑French rider, before defending it through a 9km time trial and the final road stage, on his way to 27th overall, in a field exceeding 100 riders.
