TRIATHLETE Ollie Turner is gearing up for a defining moment in his long‑course career as he prepares to take on Ironman South Africa.

The Islander ends the Easter period with a trip to Port Elizabeth for his season opener, and all eggs are in one basket when it comes to qualification for the 2026 World Championships in Hawaii.

A top-four finish on Sunday will guarantee the short-course-turned-long-course athlete a place among the elite ranks for the global Ironman showpiece in October, although further places may be available if the first four men across the line have already booked their place.

Turner only entered his first full-distance Ironman event in December – earning a 13th-place finish in Western Australia following two top-ten finishes on the shorter, 70.3 series.

“Training has been going very well this year,” he explained. “I’ve just had my best, most undisturbed training block with some great specific Ironman prep. I’m much better prepared this time and I’m looking forward to testing my body over the full distance.

“This is my only opportunity to qualify for the World Championships in Kona [Hawaii] and I’m really excited to see what I can offer.”
