A MAJOR project at Coronation Park, which will see the Island’s first purpose-built pump track installed, has been given planning approval.
The Infrastructure Department applied for permission to upgrade the L-shaped fields, which were gifted to Islanders by an anonymous benefactor in 2022.
A portion of the land was then handed over to the next-door St Matthew’s Church, which last April received permission to build a new community hall south of the church.
The plans for the rest of the field include laying a pathway around the perimeter, landscaping to include sand dunes and a ‘nature play’ area, a sensory garden and access improvements from Coronation Park, Victoria Avenue and the Inner Road onto the fields.
The Channel Islands’ first purpose‑built pump track also forms part of the approved plans, offering a free cycling facility for children.
Velosolutions, the designer of the pump track, said: “We’re thrilled to be part of this project. It’s a beautiful location, and the addition of the pump track to Coronation Park will be a great attraction for locals and visitors alike. Jersey is well known for being a great cycling destination, and this new pump track will add another dimension to the bike infrastructure available on the Island.”
The proposals were developed with community engagement and in collaboration with heritage, landscape and ecological specialists.
The project is expected to be completed this summer.
