A FORMER States Member who has previously campaigned for an “inclusive and diverse society” and affordable homes has registered a new political party, as the 2026 general election approaches.
Nick Le Cornu became chair of the political party People First when it was registered at the end of last month.
While Mr Le Cornu has not publicly announced his intention to stand, the nomination period does not close until 22 April.
Mr Le Cornu was elected as a St Helier Deputy in a 2014 by-election. He was a founding member of Reform Jersey, but was expelled from the party that same year over a tweet targeting a fellow States Member. Seven months later, he lost his seat in a general election.
Mr Le Cornu has subsequently stood for the States in 2016, 2018 and 2022, but was unsuccessful each time.
Under a requirement to name three officers to a new political party, Brendan Renehan was named as its treasurer and Michael John Dun was named secretary.
The party’s emblem depicts a racing flag alongside its name.

In 2022, his manifesto included introducing a £15 minimum wage, creating an emergency budget, prioritising health, introducing green travel infrastructure, and removing the Bailiff, Crown Officers and Dean from the States Assembly.
He also said he would create jobs and homes and “promote an inclusive and diverse society based on equal rights and opportunities”.
Mr Le Cornu said: “The party will make announcements in due course as appropriate.”
