THE JERSEY edition of Monopoly is being updated and relaunched in time to fuel the Christmas quarrels.
The first Jersey edition of the popular board game was initially launched 22 years ago, but will be updated and relaunched in November to create a “brand-new game for a brand-new generation”.
John Keen-Tomlinson, partnerships manager at Winning Moves, is inviting Islander to suggest what local landmarks or businesses should feature in the Jersey game.
He visited the Island with Monopoly promoter Graham Barnes, who explained the significance of the game.
“Monopoly, which was invented in 1935, has had the most wonderful revival, because it’s the only time that parents at Christmas can get to talk to the kids in the same room,” he said.
Mr Barnes explained that the original Jersey Monopoly was “hugely popular” when it was launched in 2004, but there was no public input on which local landmarks were included.
In the updated edition, a Jersey charity will have its own Community Chest space on the board.
The Island’s “tax haven” status will be no more, as the new board will feature an “income tax” square instead – where players have to hand their money over to the Monopoly bank.
More than 30 local landmarks will appear in the new game, with multi-coloured sets allocated to themes.
Among the suggestions is replacing the iconic Monopoly train stations with milking stations to honour the world-famous Jersey cow.
Islanders could also see recognisable community chest cards, and a “Go Back 3 Spaces” card for players who go over the maximum 40mph speed limit on the Island.
“We think we will be wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this board together,” said Mr Keen-Tomlinson. “The board will be a celebration of everything Jersey.”
He added that he hopes the game will be done in time for Christmas.
Islanders can suggest what should feature in the Jersey edition of Monopoly by emailing jersey@winningmoves.co.uk before 11 April 2026.
